In recognition of VICTIMS FOR SALE’s contributions to women empowerment and the #MeToo movement, I have been invited to lend my voice at this preamble to the UN General Assembly in 2021 organized by the World Federation of United Nations Associations.
The New York Pitch Conference, hosted by Algonkian NYC, has been tagged by Writer’s Mag as one of the top ten literary conferences in North America. During this particular session, I’ll be addressing groups of novelists and authors focused on the genres of literary/upmarket fiction, fantasy fiction and magic realism, sharing my journey as a bestselling author with a view to guiding them towards success in terms of agent representation and agreements with the right publisher.
The New York Pitch Conference, hosted by Algonkian NYC, is one of the top writers’ conferences in North America and the top one in the East Coast. I am extremely privileged to have been invited to speak at this forum, addressing diverse groups of writers and authors. At this conference, I will not only be sharing my journey as a bestselling author, but will also be speaking about the art of capturing a publisher’s attention in an industry increasingly being governed by digitally driven transitions and vicissitudes. The focal points of my discussion will involve the following aspects:
(i) The art of writing a successful pitch note for your [fiction] novel
(ii) The processes involved in publishing your fiction work
(iii) A realistic scenario of the challenges faced by authors [particularly fiction authors] who seek to explore different genres
The New York Pitch Conference successfully assists and promotes aspiring authors writing in the genres of upmarket and literary fiction, general fiction, serious and light women's fiction, historical fiction, military fiction, mystery/thriller and detective, historical romance, paranormal romance, all forms of adult fantasy/SF, young adult and middle grade fantasy/SF, as well as memoir and narrative nonfiction.
Attendees work closely in a relaxed small-group environment with conference professionals and are provided with the skills and knowledge necessary to stand a realistic chance of success in today's tough novel market. Algonkin NYC works directly with publishers from major houses [HarperCollins, Penguin Random House and Simon & Schuster, to mention a few) who are the decision-makers, as opposed to literary agents who petition the decision-makers.
My speeches will be focused on my own perspectives on the foregoing aspects of getting yours books published. I hope to see you all there and to guide you further on this journey, which I can indisputably say is an ultimately rewarding one - assuming it feels right to you..
The writers’ workshop, targeting middle and high-school students from sixth-grade to the ninth-grade, will address storytelling, creative writing, the development of storylines and plots, visualization, imagination, writing processes and structures and styles of narrative development.
Independent artistes and writers are, in essence, entrepreneurs who not only travel extensively but also manage teams and collaborate with multiple organizations and stakeholders across various geographies. Nish Amarnath will be a keynote speaker and panelist on art entrepreneurship, sharing her perspectives, experience and journey as an author, musician, songwriter, novelist and a journalist who has mainlined the Americas from Wall Street for financial newsrooms across both sides of the Atlantic. The panel will focus on (a) what management techniques are being practiced by art entrepreneurs and how these techniques can be adapted in other sectors to enhance employee efficiency, improve employee well-being and build on organizational goals, objectives and legacy.
Madras Management Association (MMA) is the largest affiliate association of All India Management Association (AIMA) and has over 7000 corporate houses, industries, professionals, academics and executives on its rolls as members. MMA annually organizes about 650 executive development activities, including seminars for top management with a total participation of forty five thousand executives and entrepreneurs.
Storytelling is a conduit for a deeper understanding of our own social and cultural identity. The workshop will focus on how writing can help enhance emotional learning in terms of exploring our life worlds and shifting the way we make sense of our reality and our own stories as part of that reality. The workshop will address diverse writing techniques and approaches to narrative style and structure. It will also look into how creativity can be incorporated into everyday writing.
Readings from ‘'Victims for Sale’' followed by a discussion on crime against women against the backdrop of an excessive emphasis on family honor. This is a free and public event open to all.
This is a ticketed event applicable to individuals aged 18 and above. The workshop will focus on (i) techniques of investigative journalism in dangerous, unstable and/or precarious environments and (ii) the effectiveness of digital storytelling in strengthening collaborative learning among journalists and media practitioners. The session will also address topics of information synthesis and narrative development, style and structure for exposés and enterprise stories.
